The University provides a range of family-friendly leave policies, including maternity leave, paternity leave, adoption leave and shared parental leave. The University also has a parental leave policy, which gives parents additional rights to periods of unpaid leave, a special leave policy for unexpected circumstances, and a parental leave for postgraduate students.
Returning from leave
Members of academic staff that are planning to take a period of maternity/paternity/adoption/shared parental leave should discuss with the Head of School how their productivity on return from leave could be enhanced, for instance by a reduced teaching load or by research support during the period of leave. The University provides a Carers’ Fund to help enable members of staff with caring responsibilities to attend events as part of their role, such as covering the costs of childminding/respite care or travel costs of dependents in order to attend a conference.
